The bumper pendulum developed by ERNST is used for optimizing energy-absorbing components of the vehicles' rear structure and front end, as well as for advanced investigations regarding the deformation behavior of add-on components or entire vehicles. The bumper speed is very precisely controlled and regulated through the wind-up angle. The speed is measured by means of a light barrier. Load cells integrated in the bumper's front end measure the occurring forces. According to the test situation, the pendulum mass can be loaded up to 3.5 tons.
