What does the star rating mean?
Euro NCAP has a five-star rating system. Five stars represent the best level of safety that a car can achieve, taking into account the respective protocols that are in force at the time. These protocols get tougher over time and challenge the automotive industry making cars safer.
The five-star rating represents a car with extremely good passive safety. This means an extremely good protection to its adult and child occupants but also to those people around the car: pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
In addition to passive safety, active safety gets rated as well. This is what is meant by crash avoidance technologies like autonomous emergency braking, speed assistance, lane support etc.
